Who We Are

The management, staff, and Board of Clínica Msr. Oscar A. Romero are mission-driven to provide quality health care, health education, and community advocacy on behalf of the under-served men, women and children of Greater Los Angeles. Health care is a human right and Clínica Romero works to ensure access to it for all people regardless of their ability to pay. A majority of the administrative, clinical and counseling staff are from the ethnic communities served by Clínica Romero, which guarantees solidarity of purpose, ability to communicate and empathic care.

Our Foundation

A coalition of Salvadoran civil war refugees sought to address the pressing mental and physical needs of their compatriots in the Los Angeles community and founded Clínica Romero in 1983 with the assistance of volunteer physicians. Inspiration for the mission of the clinic is rooted in the active compassion and defense of the poor exemplified by the life of martyred Archbishop Romero of El Salvador. Romero’s theology and non-violence echoes the thought and practice of Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Clínica Romero staff continue this tradition of compassionate treatment of others through their organizational values.

Clinica Romero is an FTCA Deemed Facility

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) considers Clinica Msr. Oscar A. Romero (Clinica Romero) and its providers as Public Health Services employees, providing malpractice liability protection under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA).  This coverage extends to Clinica Romero and its (1) officers; (2) governing board members; (3) full- and part-time employees; and (4) contractors who are licensed or certified individual health care practitioners. FTCA coverage is similar to a “per occurrence” policy without a limit on how much money is awarded. Therefore, any coverage limits that may be mandated by other organizations are met.
